Follow the Flight of the Pickleball
2m 29s
A general rule of thumb for positioning on the pickleball court is to follow the flight of the pickleball. By following the flight of the pickleball, you will (1) create angles of attack for you; and (2) minimize angles of attack for your opponents.
If you hit the pickleball down the line, move in to the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line on straight line and follow the pickleball down the line.
If you hit the pickleball down the middle, move in to the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line on a bit of an angle and follow the pickleball down the middle.
If you hit the pickleball cross court, move in to the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line on an angle and follow the pickleball crosscourt, such that you will probably end up close (if not on or over) the dividing middle line at the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line.
Remember, during any of these scenarios, you and your partner must remain linked together. So, you and your partner must both follow the flight of the pickleball and have similar angles of attack. Work together and stay linked within six to eight feet of each other.
By (1) getting to the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line; (2) following the flight of the pickleball; (3) staying connected with your partner; and (4) hitting the pickleball out in front of your body, you and your partner will be able to significantly minimize any angles of attack for your opponents on the pickleball court.
Key Takeaways:
1. Follow the flight of the pickleball after your shot or your partner’s shot to create angles of attack for you and minimize angles of attack for your opponents.
2. Remember to stay within 6 to 8 feet of your partner. Stay together and follow the pickleball!
