You need to spend a little time drilling on each stroke. There are a lot of strokes to work on and perfect in the game of pickleball, including the lob. So, isolate the lob and try these basic drills to improve your lob:
1. Basic Lob Toss – Have your drill partner stand across the pickleball net from you, and toss pickleballs to you so that you have to move and hit defensive lobs with a high trajectory. Give yourself plenty of time between each lob. Once you hit a few defensive lobs, try some offensive lobs. Remember the difference in paddle angle and path of your follow through!
2. Dink-Lob Drill – Have your drill partner stand across the pickleball net from you at the Non-Volley Zone or Kitchen Line. Dink back and forth with each other. Then, take turns sending offensive lobs over the each other. Track down each offensive lob—running to the side of the pickleball and beyond the bounce—and hit a drop shot back over the net. Then, resume dinking, lobbing, and dropping. Repeat as many times as you can!
Key Takeaway:
1. Drill, drill, drill and hit hundreds of offensive and defensive lobs to master this skill.
