To improve your volley, avoid these common mistakes on the pickleball court:
1. Breaking Your Wrist – Remember to strike each volley with a stable wrist. You should not be flicking or breaking your wrist on contact with the pickleball.
2. Pulling Up Too Quickly – Remember to stay compressed and hit through your volley. If you pull up too quickly, you will likely hit the pickleball too high or mishit the pickleball entirely into the net.
3. Taking Your Eyes Off of the Pickleball – Watch the pickleball all the way to your paddle. Oftentimes, mishits happen simply because you do not watch the pickleball hit your paddle.
4. Making a Poor Shot Selection – If you are out of position, do not go for too much. In other words, if you are out of position, keep it simple on the pickleball court. It never hurts to make your opponents play one more shot, but it will always kill you to overplay the pickleball.
Key Takeaways:
1. Keep your wrist firm when hitting volleys.
2. Stay compressed all the way through your shot.
3. Keep your eyes on the pickleball.
4. Perfect your shot selection. Remember, the less time you have, the less you should do with the pickleball. Keep it simple!
