If you are having issue generating power on your overheads, focus on:
1. Contact Point – Make sure your contact point on your overhead shot is out in front of your body in the 1 o’clock position (or 11 o’clock position if you are a lefty) if you imagine that you are facing a clock. By making sure you strike the pickleball out in front of your body, you will allow yourself to transfer your weight into the overhead shot, which generates more power.
2. Engage Your Entire Arm and Body – Avoid swinging from the shoulder with a firm wrist on the overhead. When striking an overhead, you want to engage your shoulder, arm, wrist, and body. By remaining loose and engaging your entire arm and body, you will be able to generate more power.
With that said, remember that you want to control your power when you strike an overhead. You probably will strike an overhead with only 60-80% of your power, rather than 100% of your power. This is because with more power comes less control and more unforced errors. Control your power.
Key Takeaways:
1. To generate power on your overheads, hit your overhead out in front of your body and engage your entire arm and body.
2. Control your power on your overhead by hitting your overheads with only 60-80% of your power.
